Focus on Children: A required class for parents in Lane County family law cases.
Under Lane County Supplemental Rule 8.012, all parents with children under 18 who are parties to a dissolution, legal separation, or custody/parenting time proceeding in Lane County are required by the court to complete the Focus on Children parent education class.
This is not optional. Failure to complete the class can result in the court denying relief you have requested, considering your noncompliance when ruling on custody and parenting time issues, or bringing contempt proceedings against you.
This class applies to you if: You are a parent of a child under 18 and are involved in a Lane County annulment or dissolution of marriage, legal separation, or a petition to establish custody or parenting time (including paternity cases).
You are required to register within 15 days of receiving the court notice. Visit the Lane County Focus on Children website to sign up for the class online, or download the registration form to register by mail.
Thursday evenings, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Register early as classes fill up.
$87.21 per person. Fee waivers are available only if a fee waiver was granted by the Lane County Circuit Court when you filed your paperwork.

You must register for the class within 15 days of filing your case with the court.

The impact of family restructuring on children, successful co-parenting skills, parents' rights and responsibilities, custody, parenting plans, and adjusting to new living arrangements.
Parents cannot attend the same class session. You and the other parent must register for different dates.
Children and nonpaying guests are not allowed at the class.
If you live more than 100 miles from Eugene, contact Lane County Youth Services for approved alternative programs.
Completion gives you access to mediation. Attending the class enables you to access free custody and parenting plan mediation through Lane County Youth Services.
A waiver may be available. In limited circumstances, you may request a waiver from the program administrator if participation is unnecessary or inappropriate. This must be done within the time required for registration.
